What Is Web Hosting?

Web hosting is basically rented disk space and bandwidth through a "web host" allowing you to upload your files to a space on a server owned by the web host that is "online".

Since we host thousands of web sites, we have the programs and infrastructure needed to allow you to have your site's files uploaded and accessible on the internet in a matter of minutes.

Domain Ownership / Account Transfer

  • We have a couple of methods for placing a Domain and its corresponding Plan and/or Registration underneath another Hostek Account.

Method 1

  • This method is for anyone with 2+ Hostek Accounts who want to transfer a Website or Domain from one account to another:
  1. Simply submit a ticket to Support with Security Verification for both Hostek Accounts involved.
  • Once you've done this, the process will be up to us, and it shouldn't take long to complete.

Method 2

  • This method is for anyone who wants to transfer a Website or Domain from one Hostek Account to another:
  1. You will want to have an Account Created under the receiving party's name.
    1. For help on this step, please refer to this wiki: Register an Account
  2. The receiving party will need to give their permission for the move by submitting a ticket to support with Security Verification.
    1. If you wish to skip this step, please complete Step 3, which can be followed even though it's usually for Reseller moves.
  3. (Skip this step if the website is NOT under a Reseller Account) The receiving party will then need to place an order for their specific or equivalent Hosting Plan, with their Domain in the order.
    1. For help on this step, please refer to this wiki: Adding Services
  4. You (the current domain/plan owner) will need to give your permission for the move by submitting a ticket to support with Security Verification.
  • Once you've done this, the process will be up to us, and it shouldn't take long to complete.

  • A few examples of Recorded Streaming are:
    • MP3
    • MP4
    • AVI
    • WAV
    • MPG

What is a good bitrate to use for my Recorded Streaming Audio?

When storing audio in a compressed format (such as MP3) a bitrate of 160Kbps will provide a good balance between audio quality and file size. If you wish to store higher-quality audio without adding much more data, experiment with the Variable Bit Rate (VBR) options for your audio encoding software.

Do you register .tv domains?

Yes, .tv domains are $50 a year

What processors do you use on your Linux Servers?

Our Linux servers use Intel processors.

What does the Free transfer to your servers from a previous host mean?

We will copy your website files and databases to our servers from your previous webhost after you provide us with the necessary login details (FTP and/or Control Panel). After transferring your files we will test your website to make sure it's working correctly. You will be notified to test further to make sure the transfer was satisfactory.

Finally you should change the DNS servers for your domain to point to our name servers. It usually takes 4-24hrs for your address to propagate through out the internet after changing the DNS.

Do you support/host adult or mature content related websites?

  • We do NOT host adult sites, nor sites which generally would be perceived as being of adult nature based on language, content, photos, images, including nudity of any form. If any of these occur on an account the account will be terminated.

Will There Be Advertisements Placed On My Site?

No, we do not place any advertisement of any type on your site. You have complete control over your site's content.
