SmarterMail User Forward


Follow these steps to automatically forward all incoming messages from one email account to another email account:

  1. Login to your SmarterMail interface for the user you wish to forward email for.
  2. Click the settings icon on the left-hand navigation panel ( Looks like two gears ).
  3. Expand the My Settings folder.
  4. Click Account Settings.
  5. Click on the "Forwarding" tab under Account Settings.
  6. In the Forwarding Address field, type the email address you want messages to forward to. If forwarding to multiple email addresses, separate address with a comma.
  7. If you want the messages deleted from your SmarterMail account once they have been forwarded, select the Delete messages when forward checkbox.
  8. Click Save.

For manual instructions see steps below:

  1. Login to your SmarterMail interface with an administrative user for your domain.
  2. Click the settings icon on the left-hand navigation panel ( Looks like two gears ).
  3. Expand the 'Domain Settings' folder.
  4. Click 'Aliases'.
  5. You can now view existing email aliases. Click 'New' to add a new alias.
  6. The 'Alias Name' field enter the address you want the forward to be setup for. ( Example enter 'myalias' in the field to forward email that comes into the address 'myalias@domain.com' )
  7. Enter the email addresses you want this email alias to forward the messages that come in to. You can enter multiple addresses by including one on each line.
    • 'Include all domain users' - Select this option to include all domain users automatically in the alias. This option does not override the email addresses listed in the Email Address box. If selected, all domain users will be included in addition to the users entered in the Email Address box.
    • 'Disable greylisting' - Disables greylisting for email coming into this email alias. ( such as 'myalias@domain.com' )
    • 'Enable in Live Chat (XMPP)' - Enables Live Chat functionality for the email alias. Live Chat is disabled on our shared SmarterMail servers.
    • 'Show in Global Address List' - Allows the user to appear in each email users global contacts.
    • 'Internal Only' - Makes this email alias only work for emails coming from another user from the same domain.
      ( Example user@gmail.com cannot send to 'myalias@domain.com' as the forwarder wont' work.. but 'user@domain' can send properly to 'myalias@domain.com' )

  8. Click 'Save'.


cPanel Email Forwarding

Instructions on setting up email forwarding within your cPanel account

User Forwarder

  1. First login to your cPanel for the domain you want to setup a forwarder for.
  2. Find the section for 'Email' and click the option for 'Forwarders'.
    • You will now see a list of existing email forwarders you have setup.
  3. You can add a single email user forward by clicking 'Add Forwarder'.
  4. In the 'Address to Forward' field enter the user you want to set to forward if it receives any email.
  5. In the 'Domain' field select the drop-down and choose the domain this user is under.
  6. Now in the 'Destination' section you can choose to forward incoming email to this user to a specific address, or you can choose to discard the email
    • If you choose to discard the email then you can also enter in the message that it reports back to the sender.
    • You can also click the 'Advanced Options' to view more options of how to handle the emails that come into this email alias.
  7. Click 'Save'.

Domain Forward

  1. First login to your cPanel for the domain you want to setup a forwarder for.
  2. Find the section for 'Email' and click the option for 'Forwarders'.
    • You will now see a list of existing email forwarders you have setup.
  3. You can add a domain wide forwarder by clicking 'Add Domain Forwarder'.
  4. Select the drop-down for 'Domain' and choose the domain you want to activate the forwarder for. ( All users under this domain will forward the email to the address you specify.
  5. In the 'To' field enter the address that all emails coming into this domain should be forwarded to.
  6. Click 'Add Domain Forwarder' to save.
